En choisissant ce havre retiré sur la carte du monde entre Nicaragua et Panama, le duo a imaginé cette maison pièce par pièce, depuis son ancrage marseillais, avant de poser ses bagages et de débuter une nouvelle vie, bercée par un autre rythme, immergée dans une nature providentielle face à l'océan. From France to Costa Rica, from Marseille to Santa Teresa… A distance of more than 5000 miles and at the end of the journey there is the Villa Riviera. This is the dream project of a Provençal couple that fell madly in love with the resplendent nature and the astonishing ocean vistas of the Nicoya Peninsula, one of only five “Blue Zones” on the planet. They decided to devote themselves to this secluded paradise nestled between Nicaragua and Panama, so once back in Marseille, they designed an ideal living space and then imagined a new life that moved to a different rhythm. The result is a tropical retreat equipped with all the modern comforts where the clean, simple style of the 1950s is a transcendent blend of the chic and the vintage. Amid the perfect fusion of colors and styles, there is time to breathe and to become reacquainted with silence.
Poised above the Pacific Ocean with its infinite horizons, this house is a celebration of the balance between the interior and the exterior. The structure is exquisitely spaced between two floors with patios and balconies reaching into the surrounding gardens and rustling palm trees. It features exotic woods and pristine whites that are enhanced by fresh and invigorating colors: blue, green, emerald, sun yellow… There is a large living room, an open-space kitchen to share local delicacies, and three rooms with private Italian showers. The spaces feature simple and efficient ergonomics, a spectrum of natural light from sunrise to dusk, warm but sophisticated materials (teak, steel, polished concrete, rattan, cotton...), and a collection of sublime objects and made-to-measure furniture that evoke wellness and serenity. The Villa Riviera is inspired by the architecture and savoir-faire of Palm Springs, Miami, and the Côte d'Azur, accentuated with occasional hints of Italy. Based in France (Marseille) and Costa Rica (Santa Teresa), Hemerson Studio is an interior design agency specializing in spaces that are as unique as they are exceptional. The agency is propelled by David Karoubi, who emerged from the world of scenography to create distinctive hotels and guesthouses in Marseille: Casa Ortega, Pension Edelweiss, and Vertigo. These ventures contributed to the renaissance of the neighborhood around the Gare St. Charles train station and established David as a trendsetter and a tastemaker with an intuition for the next big thing. At his side is Anouk Grumbach, a food stylist who is dedicated to cultivating the good life and to sharing it with others. Anouk seeks to combine audacity and harmony in her work and the final creations emit an aura of breathtaking originality. Together, they have a passion for decoration and for finding rare, unusual items that perfectly finish a given space. Their agency is a catalyst for renewal that offers design and décor that is distinguished by the cool attitude of two latitudes, one Mediterranean, the other Pacific.
